Welcome to your very own Solar System! In this unique collection of gas, rock and ice you will find a star – the Sun, eight official planets, three dwarf planets, over 130 moons and many hundreds of small bodies like asteroids and comets. It can be split into two main parts: the inner Solar System, which contains the rocky planets Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars, and of course the Sun, and the outer Solar System, which contains the gas giants Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. Pluto is no longer a planet, but instead is known as a dwarf planet, along with Eris and Ceres. The asteroid belt conveniently marks the division between the inner and outer Solar System.
